The Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens), also known as the Golden palm, is one of the most popular tropical houseplants in the world. With its fresh green, fan-shaped leaves, it instantly brings a touch of summery elegance into your home. Originally, the plant comes from Southeast Asia, where it grows wild in a tropical climate. However, the Areca adapts excellently to indoor climates — perfect for the living room, office, or hallway.

Appearance & characteristics

The Areca has many thin, elegant leaves that fan out from multiple stems. The soft leaf gives a tropical, airy atmosphere to any interior. This species grows slowly but steadily, and retains its fresh color all year round.

Location

The Areca palm loves lots of light, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn. Place it in a bright spot, preferably near a window facing east or west.

Watering needs

Water the Areca regularly so that the potting soil remains slightly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Do not let water sit in the pot. Occasionally mist the leaves with water for a fresh and healthy appearance — this also helps to combat dust and insects.
