Care Tips

Dwarf conifers owe their name to their slow growth, not necessarily to their size. When purchased, the plant is already older than you might expect, which means you can enjoy it for a long time. Once the dwarf conifers have grown sufficiently, you can plant them in the garden, where they will remain for generations without becoming wild. When placed in the ground in the spring, you hardly need to fertilize or prune, and the plant remains fuller without bare spots. If the tree has spent the winter indoors, let it acclimate to the outdoor climate by placing it in the shed for a while before planting it in the garden. The Picea glauca Conica can eventually grow up to one meter tall. You can combine it with flowering ground covers or bedding plants, or place it in a beautiful pot on the terrace or balcony.

Fun Facts

Do not touch the top of the Picea glauca Conica ‘December’® with your hands, as skin oils can damage the plant; rather lift it by the bottom. Also, make sure it gets enough water, as dehydration can be harmful. If you rub the needles between your hands, they smell like blackcurrants. The Picea was discovered in 1904 in the Canadian mountains and does excellently as a mini Christmas tree indoors or outdoors on the balcony or terrace. Combined with heather or berry plants, it creates a cozy winter scene. A dwarf conifer in a pot by the front door or as a subtle decoration indoors can be a real eye-catcher!
